MOTOTRBO™ R7a

MOTOTRBO™ R7a

The R7a is the latest non-keypad/display model from Motorola Solutions, this model builds on the successful DP4400 and DP4400e models.  This model is the cheapest version, it has no GPS, Bluetooth etc and cannot be future upgraded without buying/part exchange for the next model (R7 NKP)

Features include the new `Loud & Clear` audio which is now fully customisable.  The crystal-clear audio is possible through the dual microphone setup and improved loudspeaker design.  The dual microphones allow automatic acoustic feedback along with ambient background noise monitoring.  The loudspeaker can deliver phenomenal loudness (102phons) out of the box (loud enough to be heard over the passing traffic.  The housing has the classic Motorola ruggedness with a bit more styling (more hand-friendly).

The R7 series features an improved top panel orange emergency button with Transmit Interrupt functionality. The radio is tested to military standards and is waterproof to IP68 and IP66.

The new technology can offer up to 28 hours of battery life (depending on the model of battery) for 3-shift working and we are seeing an additional improved receiver, boosting the range on previous models.

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

Analogue/Digital

Get all the benefits of digital, including better voice quality, better operational range and better battery life – but retain compatibility with your existing radio fleet while giving yourself the freedom to migrate to the latest technology at your own pace.

Automatic Gain Control

This feature can automatically compensate for changes in voice level, whether you are speaking softly or loudly, turning your head, or moving the microphone further away from your mouth.

Transmit Interrupt Capability

Enables a supervisor to interrupt an R7 user to deliver live critical communications exactly when and where it’s needed.

Encrypted Communications

Keep your communications from being intercepted and your channels secure with 16-bit encryption, other enhancements are also available using Digital Privacy and RAS (Restricted Access to System).

Lone Worker

R7a can help protect those working on their own by regularly prompting the user to press a button on the radio.  If the user does not respond within a specified length of time, a supervisor or dispatcher is notified that there may be a problem.  A dedicated emergency channel can be utilised with radios automatically selecting this channel during an emergency call.

Text Messaging

Ability to send canned messages via predefined text(s) via a pre-programmed button press.

Voice Announcements

R7 can be configured to have voice announcements; battery level, channel selection and other functions can have standard or custom voice announcements. E.g., Channel one could now be announced as “Operations Channel” with channel two being “Emergency Channel”, great for users who have poor vision or the environmental condition are poor (night time etc.).  This feature also enables the radio unit to remain in the case or clipped to a belt during channel selection.   Text to speech feature is standard on all R7 models.

The M-Radio App

Not available on this model (due to no Bluetooth/Wi-Fi etc).

Review

What we think

Jason from Service Team: “Due to global issues it looks like we are not going to get our hands on these impressive units for a few months yet.  The units are natural progressions to the DP4000e range (although the DP4000 range is still current), I can see the DP4000e range being scaled back to make way for this improved model.  The improved Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, Receiver Spec, Larger and better screen, dual microphones and louder speaker can only make this unit better and improved.  As with the DP4800e range, these are full-on systems radios with great performance with the continued `e` enhancements.  Great battery and audio accessory options. Radio robustness also seems to have been improved.  The better screen real estate can only improve upon the simple yet effective current offerings.  Offering 3 models (R7a, R7NKP & R7FKP) and then 2 variations on the R7NKP & the R7FKP seems a little confusing until we look into the whys.  The R7a is the basic, cheaper non-display workhorse that cannot be upgraded with regards to GPS, and Bluetooth. Wi-Fi etc (like the DP4400e).  The other two models can have these features added if and when needed via software licensing (Capable and Premium variations).  Features like a Real-time clock, audio recording and playback, dual microphones and louder speakers.  It’s a pricey unit, whether they are worth it we`ll see soon.”
