Motorola SL1600
The MOTOTRBO SL1600 is available in both VHF and UHF, each model is capable of both analogue and digital formats. The SL1600 main feature is its size, the unit is very tactile, has excellent usability, ultra-slim and rugged. The SL1600 features 99 channels (2 selectable zones), voice announcements for channels, zones and functions and add the slim size and it makes this model suitable in the field or at a corporate event, the SL1600 is boldly designed to keep you efficiently connected.
The radio’s ergonomic design is reminiscent to an older Motorola/Radius P60 format and size. Measuring only 22mm thick, the SL1600 is ultra-portable. A stubby antenna (both VHF and UHF), curved edges and rugged frame make the SL1600 the perfect work partner. It can be easily carried in pockets or bags without snagging or bulging.
The SL1600 does not looks and feel less like a traditional radio, there is no rotary ON/OFF volume control, making way for a push button style user interface. The prominent push-to-talk button, and top toggle channel switch to enable quick one-hand access (great for gloved users). Channel “fast toggle” allows users to scroll through 10 channels at a time.
There is a single programmable side button which can be used for features or emergency/panic button. Although not readily noticeable the unit has a shatterproof Active View display uses a matrix of LEDs behind the radio housing to communicate radio information and shuts off when not in use to conserve battery life. The radio can now display channel names, incoming caller contact alias and popular user function like battery level, volume control and brightness.
The SL1600 along with the more featured e series features Range Max technology: an advanced radio design and patented antenna which delivers enhanced range while maintaining a slim profile and long battery life.
The SL1600 is built to last. IP54 rated for dust and water resistance, it can be used even in harsh environments. This radio can survive many drops and tumbles. It has also been proven tough in Motorola’s gruelling Accelerated Life Test.

Review
What we think
Jason from the Service Team: “The SL1600 is a breath of fresh air at a great price, its small, slim and lightweight. If you’re old enough and remember the Motorola Radius P60 radio unit, they both share a lot of similar features. The performance is fantastic in digital mode for its size. The SL1600 was released before the new enhanced `e` series show casing the enhanced performances. This unit has become rooted into so many systems with fantastic customer feedback.
They look a little different from the a traditional radio which makes for a more agreeable user adoption. The screen is great, no problems experienced and when coupled with the voice announcements makes for a fully rounded solution.
The only negatives are the lack of a coloured/dedicated button for emergencies but other than that, all good here, you can’t go wrong”
