Motorola DP4801 Ex
The DP4801e refuses to compromise on features, with high performance integrated voice and data, and Bluetooth audio which lets you communicate without wires, the new integrated Wi-Fi enables remote software updates and indoor and outdoor location-tracking capabilities give total visibility of your resources. There is support for trunking options and legacy analogue radio capabilities to give the customer the flexibility and adaptability required.
The series features a prominent orange emergency button on the top of the handset, which has Transmit Interrupt functionality. An integrated accelerometer can sense if there is a man down and initiate a call for assistance. The radio is tested to military standards and is waterproof to IP68.
Offering a large full-colour, 5-line day and night display screen with easy-to-use menu navigation keys and a full alphanumeric keypad for text messaging.
The new technology offers up to 28 hours of battery life (depending on the model of battery) for 3-shift working and an improved receiver boosts range by up to 8% on previous models.
The DP4801e comes integrated with the man down, Wi-Fi and location tracking option board and these features can be activated by license keys.
Analogue/Digital
Get all the benefits of digital, including better voice quality, better operational range and better battery life – but retain compatibility with your existing radio fleet while giving yourself the freedom to migrate to the latest technology at your own pace, this assumes the digital version is purchased, an upgrade license (to digital) is available for the analogue version.
Automatic Gain Control
This feature can automatically compensate for changes in voice level, whether you are speaking softly or loudly, turning your head, or moving the microphone further away from your mouth.
Transmit Interrupt Capability
Enables a supervisor to interrupt a DP4801ex user to deliver live critical communications exactly when and where it’s needed.
Encrypted Communications
Keep your communications from being intercepted and your channels secure with 16-bit encryption, other enhancements are also available using Digital Privacy and RAS (Restricted Access to System).
Lone Worker
DP4801ex can help protect those working on their own by regularly prompting the user to press a button on the radio. If the user does not respond within a specified length of time, a supervisor or dispatcher is notified that there may be a problem. A dedicated emergency channel can be utilised with radios automatically selecting this channel during an emergency call.
Man Down
This uses the integrated accelerometer and automatically sends an alarm signal if the radio handset is tipped over for over a programmable amount of time.
Text Messaging
Ability to send custom messages via the keypad and predefined text(s) via button press.
Voice Announcements
DP4801e can be configured to have voice announcements; battery level, channel selection and other functions can have standard or custom voice announcements. E.g. Channel one could now be announced as “Operations Channel” with channel two being “Emergency Channel”, great for users who have poor vision or the environmental condition are poor (night time etc). This feature also enables the radio unit to remain in the case or clipped to a belt during channel selection.

Review
What we think
Jason from the Service Team says “Same comments at the DP4401ex, with two ATEX radio options in the Motorola MOTOTRBO portfolio so from a choice point of view there is little – non display or the display model. That being said the DP4801ex unit is solid with excellent features with an industry leading ATEX spec. Pros – great looking distinctive ATEX unit, great to spot on site if radios are compliant, Cons – like all ATEX equipment its pricey, size and weight are a little big for my liking”
