Motorola DP1400

Motorola DP1400

The Motorola Solutions DP1400 is the entry-level radio which is packed with features you would expect on higher-end equipment.  As part of the MOTOTRBO radio portfolio, like the other models in the range the DP1400 has great audio quality, outstanding coverage, long-lasting battery life and more.

The DP1400D is available in both VHF and UHF and can cover both analogue and digital from the start.  The DP1400 features 32 channels (2 zones, 16 channels per zone), allowing you to create more targeted communications for the different functions within your workforce.  The radio’s ergonomic design is based from the previous hugely popular CP040 Motorola analogue model; this design gives users reasonable access to all the controls even when wearing gloves.  The two side programmable buttons and a wide selection of accessories allow many customisation options for every user.  The accessories are based on the previous CP040 and GP300 models and are readily available.

One of the great features available on this entry level unit is the ability for a supervisor unit to be able to interrupt a live transmission.   This feature along with others improves an organisations lifeline in critical communications which means it must be built for the toughest situations.  Motorola Solutions tests the DP1400 to MIL-STD-810 to ensure it is built for the job.  In addition to the standards testing, Motorola also perform their unique Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) so you can be confident your radio will stand up to many years of use in the field.

Whatever your needs, the DP1400D provides a simple, reliable, cost-effective communication solution to help work teams connect, coordinate and collaborate to get the job done right.  By combining the latest analogue and digital two-way radio technology, the DP1400 is perfect for the everyday user who wants to stay connected.

Analogue/Digital

Get all the benefits of digital with a migration back to analogue if need be, including better voice quality, better operational range and better battery life – but retain compatibility with your existing radio fleet while giving yourself the freedom to migrate to the latest technology at your own pace.

Automatic Gain Control

This feature can automatically compensate for changes in voice level, whether you are speaking softly or loudly, turning your head, or moving the microphone further away from your mouth.

Transmit Interrupt Capability

Enables a supervisor to interrupt a DP1400D user to deliver live critical communications exactly when and where it’s needed.

Encrypted Communications (digital mode)

Keep your communications from being intercepted and your channels secure with 16-bit encryption, other enhancements are also available using Digital Privacy and RAS (Restricted Access to System).

Lone Worker

DP1400D can help protect those working on their own by regularly prompting the user to press a button on the radio.  If the user does not respond within a specified length of time, a supervisor or dispatcher is notified that there may be a problem.  A dedicated emergency channel can be utilised with radios automatically selecting this channel during an emergency call.

Voice Announcements

DP1400 can be configured to have voice announcements; battery level, channel selection and other functions can have standard or custom voice announcements. E.g. Channel one could now be announced as “Operations Channel” with channel two being “Emergency Channel”, great for users who have poor vision or the environmental condition are poor (night time etc.).  This feature also enables the radio unit to remain in the case or clipped to a belt during channel selection.

Review

What we think

Jason from Service Team: “The DP1400 is a great and capable unit, I was never fond of the older CP040 model due to the Professional GP340 model being so successful at the time. The DP1400 has been updated with both versions of the DP1400 now well proven based on the sales/rental volume and lack of service calls we get.

I would advise to avoid the NiMH battery units, these battery packs are bigger, heavier and poor cost effectiveness over two years when compares to the Li-Ion unit. As such we only supply the upgraded Li-Ion battery.

On a down side there is no dedicated orange emergency button but a side button is usually used, it is only IP54 rated due to the accessory socket. All in all, it is a great dependable unit at a good price making it safe investment.”
