Ofcom EMF Update
Ofcom have published their final decision on how they are to implement the new EMF regulations.
The key amendments are:
- ERP is now measured as an ‘average’. As the regulations don’t apply to transmissions under 6W ERP this effectively means that virtually all PMR and DMR equipment will be exempt. For example, even a 25W transmitter at an average 10% transmit time would have an average power of only 2.5W
- Licensee’s who have an ERP of less than 6W on their licence need take no action
However Licensee’s with an ERP of more than 6W on their licence will still have to carry out and document an audit of their equipment to show compliance.
New guidelines and a new calculator are to be made available by Ofcom shortly.
